The City of Newberry provides Electric*, Water, Wastewater and Solid Refuse. *Electric is not available within the entire city limits.

Please note: all parties (applicant and/or co-applicant) must sign the application through DocuSign before it can be received by Customer Service. Once received, Customer Service will being processing the application.
You may apply for service in person or online. The following is required to establish a new utility account:
New Utility Service Requirements:
If your address is public records exempt, it is your responsibility to complete and return a notarized public records exemption form.
Property Owners:
- Social Security Number (applicant and co-applicant)
- Government Issued ID (applicant and co-applicant)
- Copy of top portion of closing disclosure or a copy of Warranty Deed
- Telephone Number
- Mailing Address
Tenants:
- Social Security Number (applicant and co-applicant)
- Government Issued ID (applicant and co-applicant)
- Copy of signed lease agreement

Fees
Activation Fee
- New customers will be charged an activation fee of $75.00 for setting up new accounts.
- Same day activation requests will access an additional $25.00 during business hours (Non-AMI) or $75.00 after hours (Non-Ami) will be added.
Deposits for Utility Services
The City reserves the right to review existing deposits and payment status on any customer at any given time and adjust those deposits to reflect an adequate security deposit.
- Residential Utility Deposit: $0.00 - $400.00 (varies based upon credit worthiness or an amount equivalent of up to 2 times the highest month's service usage for the service address during the preceding 12 months)
- A letter of credit with at least 24 months positive payment history from another utility company can be used in lieu of pulling a credit report.
- Commercial Utility Deposit: $400.00 minimum (based on 2 times the highest month's service usage for the service address and business type involved)
- Financial Institution, Realtors, Property Management, and Landlords: $200 (depending on credit score rate may vary)
- Commercial Contractors: A contractor who has established a timely payment history with the City shall be exempt
Miscellaneous Charges
- Delinquent Bill Penalty Charge: 2.5% of outstanding balance or $10.00, whichever is greater, will be applied to your acount after 6:00 pm on the 15th day of the month.
- All accounts are subject to disconnection fees:
- $100.00 - Non-Ami
- $200.00 - Failure to provide access
- All accounts are subject to reconnection fees
- $100.00 - Reconnection during business hours (Non-Ami)
- $25/hour, over time - After hours reconnection (Non-Ami)
- $75.00 - After Hours non-pay reconnect (AMI)
- Returned Check Charges
- $25.00 for check value less than $50.00
- $30.00 for check amount $50.01-$300.00
- $40.00 for check amount $300.01-$1,000.00
- 5% if check amount greater than $1,000.00
- Meter Tampering Charge: $100.00
- Meter Test Charge: $60.00 for additional test (City will test meter once in a 12 month cycle upon request)
