The Florida Municipal Electric Association (FMEA) has given the 'Building Strong Communities' award to the City of Newberry. This award acknowledges Newberry's outstanding community contributions, which go beyond providing affordable, reliable, and clean energy. The FMEA recognizes public utilities that enhance the environment, educate the community, collect charity donations, and run special programs. Newberry's initiatives include organizing and supporting community events, hanging holiday decorations, providing utility assistance, collecting charitable donations, and supporting veterans.
“For the people who work for Florida’s public power utilities, it is more than just a job. It is a way for them to give back to their communities and an opportunity to strengthen the communities that they also live in,” said Amy Zubaly, FMEA Executive Director. “Congratulations to each of the utilities honored today, including Newberry, and many thanks to the employees who have made this recognition possible.”
The award was given to Newberry at the FMEA Energy Connections Conference and Trade Show on Nov. 7.
