Net metering is a service option offered by some electric utilities that permits customerowned renewable generation to be interconnected with the utility’s distribution system and used to offset part or all of a customer’s electric usage. Any excess customer generation is delivered into the utility’s distribution system and is credited on the customer’s monthly electric bill.
Solar Net Metering
Sec. 98-70. Interconnection and net metering of customer-owned renewable generation systems.
Customer-owned renewable generation systems is primarily intended to offset all or part of the customer's electric consumption requirements. As such, the gross power rating of a customer-owned renewable generation system shall be limited in size to meet the customer's peak energy load.
City of Newberry requires the Solar customer to maintain general liability insurance for personal injury and property damage in the amount of not less than $100,000.00. A Certificate of Insurance for general liability coverage—covering personal injury and property damage—is required from every solar customer. Updated insurance policies must also be submitted to the City upon renewal. The required coverage amount is based on the customer's Tier, which is determined by their power usage.
- $100,000.00 - Tier 1 – 10 KW or Less
- $1,000,000.00 – Tier 2 – Greater than 10 KW and Less than or Equal to 100 KW
