Building Department

The Building Department is committed to providing exceptional service for all facets of building, roofing, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety plan reviews and inspections. Our primary mission is to safeguard the public, promote the health, safety and welfare of Newberry, its citizens, visitors and business owners through the fair enforcement of the Florida Building Code, National Electric Code, and the Florida Fire Prevention Code. We consider each construction project a partnership between the city, owners, design professionals and contractors as we work to provide the best possible outcome for all involved.

Pre-application Form

If you're planning to purchase and build on a property, please fill out the Pre-Application form to figure out a path forward. Community Development will follow up with you once received to schedule a brief meeting - either online or in-person.

Inspections

Inspections must be scheduled 24 hours in advance! Sign into the City of Newberry SmartGov portal to request an inspection online, or call the Building Department at 352-472-3927.

Permits

Visit the City's SmartGov portal to apply for, print, or view a permit. Please note: Per F.S. 713.135(d), a Notice of Commencement is required for any work valued at $5,000 or more. A Notice of Commencement is not required for the repair or replacement of an existing heating or air-conditioning work valued less than $15,000.
