Human Resources
The City of Newberry Human Resources Department (HR) provides overall policy direction on citywide human resource management issues and administrative support functions for all City departments. The department is responsible for labor and employee relations, classification and compensation, recruitment and selection, testing and validation, EEO compliance, employee records, organizational development, benefits administration, and strategic planning. The HR Department also manages the City’s insurance contracts and risk management claims.
Because the City of Newberry is committed to maintaining a Drug Free Workplace and hiring safe and competent employees, a requirement for new hires to submit to a physical examination and drug screening is a condition of employment as well as a comprehensive criminal background check using local and national databases. It is the City’s policy to provide Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) in its recruitment and development of employee’s. The city administers a labor relations contract with its Fire Department and administers a merit-based promotion and salary system with all other employees.
