Codes Enforcement

The City of Newberry enforces municipal ordinances in accordance with Florida Statutes to promote and protect the quality of life within our community. We address citizens’ concerns related to issues that impact the environment, public health and safety, property values, and the general well-being of the City. To report a violation, please contact the City’s Code Enforcement Office.

Upon receiving a complaint, the Code Enforcement Officer will investigate to determine if a violation is present. If a violation is confirmed, the Officer will attempt to notify the property owner or responsible party. The owner will be provided with a designated timeframe to achieve voluntary compliance. Should the violation remain uncorrected after this period, the Officer may issue a Notice of Violation and/or arrange a Special Magistrate hearing.

NOTE: As of July 1, 2021, CS/SB 60 prohibits county and municipal code inspectors from initiating investigations into potential code violations based on anonymous complaints. A complainant must provide his or her name and address to the local government prior to the commencement of any investigation. This prohibition does not apply when the inspector has reason to believe that the alleged violation presents an imminent threat to public health, safety, welfare, or could result in the imminent destruction of habitat or sensitive resources. Anonymous complaints that do not meet these criteria cannot be investigated.

The city aims to uphold public health, safety, and environmental quality by providing education and fostering voluntary compliance.
