Alachua County, FL – The countywide burn ban has been extended through May 2, 2026, as drought conditions persist and wildfire risk remains high.
According to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) is currently between 600–649, with 95% of the county falling within the 601–700 range. These levels indicate extreme fire danger and a high potential for rapid wildfire spread. Additionally, both the St. Johns River Water Management District and the Suwannee River Water Management District have declared a Phase II Water Shortage, further highlighting the severity of current conditions.
The burn ban prohibits all unpermitted and non-exempt outdoor burning, including campfires, debris burning, and fireworks.
Residents are urged to follow all restrictions to help protect lives, property, and natural resources. Officials will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as necessary.
