Burn Ban Extended Through May 29th

Burn Ban Extended Through May 29th in Alachua County

The countywide burn ban for Alachua County has been extended through May 29, 2026 due to continued dry conditions and elevated wildfire risk.

While scattered rain and thunderstorms are forecast throughout the upcoming week, rainfall is expected to vary in duration and area coverage. The current Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) for Alachua County is 618, an increase from last week’s 581. Alachua County is currently ranked 3rd in the State for highest KBDI levels.

As a reminder, all unpermitted outdoor burning remains prohibited under the burn ban, including:

  • Campfires and bonfires
  • Burning of yard debris or household trash
  • Unpermitted controlled burns
  • Igniting fireworks

We appreciate our community’s continued cooperation and commitment to helping protect Newberry, our neighbors, and our first responders during these dry conditions.

Updates will continue to be shared as conditions change.
