Newberry, FL — The City of Newberry is advising residents to prepare for extreme winter weather as temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-20s over the coming days. Prolonged cold conditions are expected to increase demand on the electric system and may result in higher energy costs across the region.
To help maintain system reliability and reduce strain during this weather event, the City is asking residents and businesses to conserve electricity during peak usage hours, particularly 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m on Monday; and Sunday if possible. Small actions during these times—such as lowering thermostats, delaying the use of major appliances, and turning off unnecessary lights—can make a meaningful difference. As part of these conservation efforts, City Hall will be closed Monday morning and will open at 12:00 p.m. to resume regular services. Emergency services and essential operations will remain available. Utilitiy payments have been extended to Wednesday, February 4th.
City officials encourage residents to take precautions to stay warm while also being mindful of energy use, including checking on neighbors who may need additional assistance during the cold weather.
The City of Newberry appreciates the community’s cooperation and continued commitment to supporting one another during extreme weather conditions.
