How To Become A Volunteer

All youth leagues depend on volunteers to coach in order to be successful. Newberry Parks and Recreation is no different. If you are interested in coaching for the City of Newberry Parks and Recreation Department, please contact Charla at Cechols@newberryfl.gov or Anna at ASchutzler@newberryfl.gov. Follow the link at the bottom of this page to print out the Volunteer Form to complete and return.

Newberry Parks and Recreation requires anyone who volunteers in a coaching capacity with children under the age of 18 to meet certain requirements, listed here:

  • Newberry Parks and Recreation Volunteer Form
  • Background Check
    • Background Checks are completed through Sterling Volunteers.
    • You will receive a time-sensitive email (valid for 24 hours) to enter the necessary information to complete the check.
    • You MUST provide authorization through that email to complete the check.
    • You will receive confirmation from Sterling Volunteers that you have completed your part.
    • The Background Check is good for one year.
    • There is no cost to the coach to complete the check.
    • You will not be cleared to coach without the completion of the check
  • CPR / First Aid / AED (recommended, not required)
    • These courses should take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
    • There is no cost for these trainings. The CPR, First Aid, and AED courses are each separate.
    • Make sure to take each one and print/save the certificate.
    • You can complete all trainings on THIS SITE for free; payment is required only if you choose to receive certification/download materials/register for completion, etc.

To make your volunteer experience beneficial for the participants and for you, please follow these guidelines as you help with this program.

  • Your main concern while engaged in program activities should be the safety and teaching of all participants.
  • You should supervise all participants to ensure everyone's safety.
  • You should set a good example for participants by your mannerisms, appearance, and behavior.
  • You should promote the sport, the betterment of the game, and create the best environment for the children.
